  1. I think military service to be voluntary is fairer, because some people have the interest and passion to do it but not all of them.
they have to love what they do so, in my opinion it should not be obligatory.

    here are my answers;
1-A- memorial day was called decoration day.
B-memorial day is for men and women who died to preserve the country and nowadays, it is a tradition to remember them, and what we can do is to put flowers and flags on their graves to appreciate what they did or we can at least put American flags in front of our homes.
2- I liked the second video because they explained for us about the memorial day more than the first one which gave me a clear idea about this day.
    3- voluntary.
4- I think military service to be voluntary is fairer, because some people have the interest and passion to do it but not all of them.
they have to love what they do so, in my opinion it should not be obligatory.

  4. 1. What did you learn from these videos that you didn't learn in class ?
After the World War I People realized they should crated memorial day to commemorate the dead soldiers, but the day is not just commemorate the soldiers die in the world war I, it also commemorate the other dead soldiers.
The memorial day is not fun, but it is important to people. Many people think it is a summer holiday.
Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC is a cemetery for the died soldier who is unknow.
Veterans Day on November 11th every year,it memorial the soldier living or dead but the memorial day just commemorate the dead soldiers.

    2. Which one do you like better? Why?
I like the second one better, because the vocabulary is easier than the first one, and the speak speed is not as fast as the first one.

    3. Military service is voluntary in the U.S. Is it voluntary or obligatory in your country?
    In my country,it is voluntary.

    4. Which do you think is fairer: voluntary or obligatory military service?
I though voluntary is better. Because if the person is forced to obligatory military, it means he don't like be a soldiers, then he won't study hard, do many training. When he attend the war in the future, as a result of he always lazy at trining and study, maybe ,finally he will died in the battlefield. And I think no one likes to be forced to do something.

      3. military service is voluntary in my country.

      4. I think voluntary is fairer. Because it mean people can choose to do military service or not. I believe when people do the things that they want to do, they will do it better.

  5. 1. (1): Memorial Day was called decoration day, it was set up for decorate the unknown dead people in wars.
(2): if people want to celebrate the Memorial Day, they can bring flowers and flags to grouse or put an America flags in front of your house.

    2. I like the second video more, because it shows more pictures and videos about Memorial Day than the first one. It’s easier for me to know this day.

    3. In china, military service is voluntary, but we must join one or more activities, each one 10 to 30 days, to learn how to be a soldier.

    4. In my opinion, obligatory is more fairer because the country which we live in is protecting us and gives us lots of things that make our survival, we need to learn how to protect our country, just in case.

  6. 1. List 2 facts you learned about Memorial Day from these videos.

According to the Video 1, I've learned about the history of Memorial Day. It is actually back to the Civil War, it came out of the ashes of the Civil War, it was a day to remember on May 30, 1868, would be a day to decorate the graves of the fallen soldiers with fresh flowers, it really became a decoration day, as a day Lincoln called "the last full measure of devotion."
A lot of people just think of Memorial Day as a summer holiday. It is interesting because by the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century, these already became sorts of summer holiday, because people have forgotten the Civil War which began 100 years ago, and until Aug, 1914 that meaning of decoration day came back after the tomb of the unknown to be built in Arlington, people do not know here is 2000 soldiers unidentified bodies under this memorial area. So there are a lot of connections to the Civil War in Memorial Day.
There is a tremendous bitterness after the civil war about how to honor that day for a long time. In fact, the record said confederate families were actually kept out of Arlington on May 30, which was an original day for the Memorial Day; there were also made by fraternal organization, a ground of main republic; they were really recognizing those who died for fighting, and they called it “the rebelling".
During War I, there were 100,000 Americans died, with this tremendous loss, people recognized that not only the Civil War soldiers which is the part of the Decoration Day, but also all those who have given their lives to the American revolutions.
A lot of people have felt that somehow Memorial Day is Less significant than it used to be, not just the day it’s observed on, there is more, along with the Vietnam Era, people focused on military and war, at the same time Memorial day was pushed to the sides and on 1991 to bring it back again as a day that more Americans that recognize it.
I also learned for example "What is the specific meaning of Memorial Day compared with the Veterans Day"? Memorial Day is honoring those who gave "the last full measures of devotion" who made the automatic sacrifices in servicing the country.

According to the Video 2, I've learned that Memorial Day is the Last Monday in May, it is the national holiday taking to remember the man and women who have died or serving our country. Memorial Day it was called “Decoration Day”. It is also great to know the story that happened on April 25, 1866, about the year after Civil War end, a group of women visited the cemetery in Columbia Mississippi to place the flowers by the grave of confederate soldiers, and they noticed the other graves nearby belonging to the Union died, but no one came to visit those graves or place a flower there, so they decided to leave few stamps for those men too. A few years later, an organization of Civil war veterans established Memorial Day.
A national cemetery in Washington, D.C. is the home to the tomb of the unknowns. This represents all of the soldiers who have fallen on the battles field and could not be identified.
It became a tradition on Memorial Day to place a wreath in front of the tomb of the unknowns. Flowers and Flags decorated the headstone of fallen soldiers in cemeteries cross the United States.
The difference between Veterans Day which is on Nov 11 and Memorial Day is Veterans Day celebrates all the veterans living or died, but Memorial Day remembers only those who have died in war.

  7. 2. Which video did you like better? Why?

I liked the first Video better.
First, the Q&A style of the conversation sounds more interesting; they have more story to tell by the writer. It included lots of background of the American history and the world history, such as how is the development of the Memorial Day with every special period time , and the reason why the date of Memorial Day has been changed .After watching the Video 1, I am actually wondering what other things there are to know about Memorial Day .By the way I also like the tone of this interview ,to tell us what are the important things we should remember for Memorial Day, rather than only view it as a national holiday.

    3. Military service is voluntary in the U.S. Is it voluntary* or obligatory* in your country?
It is voluntary in my country.

    4. Which do you think is fairer: voluntary or obligatory service?
I truly believe in the day we are living now ,voluntary is the best way to go.
