Blog Post #3 - due before class next Tuesday, June 16.

In class you heard a lecture about slang and were introduced to JenniferESL. Please view her Lesson 6 above, called "Office Romance." Then answer the questions:

1. Which of these expressions have you heard before? Which ones have you never heard?
2. Which ones do you think you can use in the future?
3. Give an example of one of the 3 components of slang that Jennifer talks about, and say which component it is. (Example: gonna is a pronunciation change from going to.)
4. What kinds of problems do you think office romances can cause?
5. Please make a list of the 7 expressions and their definitions to turn in on Tuesday. No need to post them on the blog.

Dear students,

First of all, thank you for your thoughtful comments on Blog #1. This blog will be related to today's lesson about Frank Gehry.

Please listen to the lecture again, and then to the short video of the students' discussion. After that, answer the questions below ( you also received a copy of this lesson in class

1. Yhinny says that Frank Gehry's buildings are all over the world? What is her point?
2. Michael suggests that someone like Frank Gehry should use his skills in practical ways like designing bridges rather than for designing aesthetically pleasing buildings. Do you agree? Explain.
3. Some say Frank Gehry doesn't pay enough attention to the environment. Would these students agree with this criticism? would you? Explain.

Don't forget to comment on at least one other student's answers also.

 For your first assignment, please listen to these  two short videos about Memorial Day below, and  take some notes. Then answer  the questions  below:

  1.  List 2 facts you learned about Memorial Day from these videos.
   2. Which video did you like better? Why?
   3. Military service is voluntary in the U.S. Is it voluntary* or obligatory* in your country?
   4. Which do yo think is fairer: voluntary or obligatory service?

   * obligatory - you must serve
   * voluntary - you can serve if you want to

Then please write an additional sentence responding ( agreeing or disagreeing) with a statement of one of your classmates. You need to do this for full credit.
